The Visual Arts Centre
Art School in Montreal
The Visual Arts Centre is a dynamic art school in Montreal, a contemporary gallery, and an outreach art education program. We have been part of Montreal’s impressive artistic community for over 70 years.
Our art school in Montreal is the largest bilingual independent art school in Canada, with over 300 courses offered each year, with a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography, jewellery, ceramics, textile, and collage. We have almost 4,000 registrations each year, including absolute beginners, students wishing to develop a portfolio, and professional artists with a desire to hone new skills.
In our art school in Montreal, we have courses for young children (starting from 3 years of age), teenagers, and adults. In our art classes, professional contemporary artists guide students of all levels to explore, learn, and create. These teachers offer curricula and pedagogical approaches that balance technical skill with the encouragement of personal creativity. They are able to offer students significant attention, as classes are kept small, with no more than 15 students in a class. They offer accessible and high calibre art education, taught with an ethic of care and openness. We also offer online courses.
In addition to our art classes, such as drawing classes and painting classes as well as our photography classes, we offer workshops that are taught by our regular faculty and visiting artists, “technical talks” (which are talks given by Montreal-based specialists in art-related fields and businesses), and special art talks given by our teachers.
